We are often asked how to block certain content using Peplink devices, and more often than not it's streaming applications that our clients wish to block. In this guide, we'll show you how to create a content blocking policy on your Peplink device using InControl2.
Prerequisites
- A Balance or MAX Peplink device.
NOTE: MAX Adapters are not supported for content blocking - An internet connection to your Peplink device
- Your Peplink device is in an InControl2 account where you have Administrator privileges
Things to consider
Content blocking using this method is based on DNS. If your client is using DNS over HTTPS (DoH), DNS over TLS (DoT), or another encrypted DNS protocol, these content blocks will not be effective. Additionally, the applications Peplink's database may not be exhaustive and services may change domain names and/or endpoints.
The content blocking capabilities of your Peplink devices are quite good, but if you're using content blocking to ensure security in a sensitive environment you may want to consider additional methods to keep your environment secure.
